Clevelander Tried for Gay Murder

In Sandusky, Angelo' Vaughn went on trial, accused of murdering Bratenahl financier Thomas Hoyt Jones on Kelleys Island last

November. The prosecution maintains that Vaughn strangled Jones at his summer cottage, taking a credit card, television sets, and his car. He was arrest-

ed in Cleveland a week later.

Opening arguments in the trial indicated that Vaughn's lawyer, Elliott Ray Kelley, is emphasizing Jones homosexuality. He argues that Vaughn, 19, had to fight for his life

when Jones, 70, made a sexual attack on him, and attributes Jones' death to his falling and hitting his head. Erie County Prosecutor John Pfefferle said that whatever Jones lifestyle may have been, he had the right to live.
